Luke Heron is an Edinburgh based venture capital investor, with both UK and internationally based business interests. He currently serves as Executive Director of the art vehicle Storyboard Assets Plc and is director of venture capital firm Canal Capital Limited. He was previously a stock market commentator and share tipster, contributing articles to The Herald, The Business, Investors Chronicle among others.
Luke dropped out of school aged just 15 in favour of what he describes as a "working education", "winning" a job as an envelope stuffer at the City based jobber and broker Smith New Court. Mercifully his time spent with postal materials was kept short, as Luke quickly climbed the corporate ladder, moving onto more profitable work in the "front office". The business was later acquired by investment bank Merrill Lynch, where what was intended to be a temporary placement evolved into a 6-year long slog, during which time his salary had multiplied 15 fold from his humble beginnings.
Following an infamous "falling out" with senior management, Luke moved away from the City firm onto fresh pastures, establishing a number of dot com enterprises specialising in industries ranging from online gaming and financial services to retail and an online venture capital network. The experience of both success and failure at an early point in his career paved the way for a future in venture capital and private equity. In 2005, Luke began work with financial media group Rivington Street Holdings Ltd, later acquiring a 5% stake in the fledgling enterprise. He left in September 2007 to focus on his venture capital interests.
Luke currently holds significant stakes in a number of privately held and publicly quoted businesses, ranging from mining and exploration through to eco-friendly baby clothing and smart card technologies. With interests spread across a number of industries and locations, Luke's focus is not honed on any specific sector, but rather on identifying undervalued and under-exploited opportunities where he can add immeadiate value.
Luke is married with one child and lives in Edinburgh. |
